Techniques of Teaching / Learning

Language teaching is given a new dimension, by introducing modern techniques of dialogue, discussion, oral practice, language laboratory, role play, dramatisation and language games.

Science Education as well as Social Science aims at developing observational and inquiry skills, values of creativity, aesthetic sensibility and objectivity.

Mathematics is visualized as a vehicle to train a child to think, reason, analyse and articulate logically.


Value Education

Inculcation of values like democracy, secularism, gender equality, scientific temper, concern for environment and promotion of peace and international understanding is the hall mark of an educated person. Every effort will be made to integrate value education in all activities designed by the institution.


Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation

Evaluation is an integral part of the total teaching / learning process and testing will be made comprehensive so as to include ALLROUND GROWTH of the learner in both scholastic and non-scholastic areas. Tests will be used for diagnostic and remedial teaching. Independent study and class assignments help in promoting self-learning and developing confidence. Home-work will be minimal but excess home work will be discouraged.

Tests / Exams and Evaluation For Classes 1 to 5 : There is no formal written test/exam. Their performance will be continuously assessed by means of oral testing, worksheets, involvement and response in classes and other activities. Reports will be sent to the Parents periodically. Students are evaluated not only in academic performance but also in other qualities such as decorum, regularity of work, ability to communicate, hand writing, observation, application skills etc.

For Classes 6 & 7 : We follow continuous assessment of students' performance through Unit Tests, Half Yearly Exam and Annual Exam. In all the unit tests and exams, 20% of marks is internal and 80% external (i.e. for written Test/Exam). Punctuality, cleanliness, completion of home work and assignments on time, Project/Practical works, performance in co-curricular activities, general discipline etc., are considered for awarding internal assessment marks.

For Classes 8 to 10 :: Students will have weekly Tests/Four Unit Tests, Half yearly and Annual Exams. The Promotion will be done as per the Board norms.

Promotion Criteria For Classes 1 to 5 :Normally there is no failure up to class 5 as long as a student has the required minimum attendance of 80%.

For Classes 6 and 7 : A Student having a minimum of 80% attendance will be declared promoted to next higher class if he/she scores a minimum of 35% in each subject and 40% in aggregate. The marks for final promotion are computed as follows : 50% from the annual exam, 25% from the half yearly exam and remaining 25% from all the unit tests.


Fostering All-Round Development

A person needs to be physically strong, mentally mature, intellectually sharp, socially useful and needs to have a high moral and aesthetic sense. These are developed as a part of the curriculum and through Co-curricular activities. Efforts are made to cater to interests of children by providing facilities in games, sports, music, dance, drawing and painting and other hobbies.


Discipline

All the students are expected to maintain high standards of discipline and social behaviour. They should obey the rules and regulations at all times, show respect to the teachers, elders and class leaders in word and deed. They should take pride in their personal appearance.

Any violation of the rules and regulations and code of discipline on the part of the students will result in his/her expulsion from the school. The decision of the Principal in such matters is final and binding.


Syllabus

The Jnanadeepa School, follows the CBSE Syllabus. The medium of instruction is English; Kannada/Sanskrit and Hindi are the other languages that we teach.
